Useful Information from a Lexmark Laser Printer Cartridge MSDS
All of us would rather work with materials and substances that we feel confident enough to be safe for usage as accorded by their materials safety data sheets or MSDSs. After all, who wants to work with hazardous substances unless the proper precautions are observed?
The same goes with the printers and printing supplies that we use. We want them to be safe for our usage, especially when we have them at home and our children are among their users. If you are using a Lexmark laser printer and printing supplies, how can you be sure that the Lexmark laser printer cartridge that you are using is not hazardous for you, your children and the people around you?
The answer is to look for the MSDS appropriate for the Lexmark laser printer cartridges that you use.
How to Find MSDSs for Lexmark Laser Printer Cartridges
If you are using your Lexmark laser printer cartridges at the office, the first person to ask for the MSDS of the printer cartridges is the person in charge of requisitioning your office supplies. He or she should have an updated copy of the MSDS of every product you use at the office.
In case this person does not have it, you can go online and retrieve the MSDS that you need from the official website of Lexmark. It may be a little tricky to get to the page where the MSDS of all their products are listed, but you can use the search function on their website to get the MSDS that you want. You can also go to the sitemap of the website and click on the link with the header “Materials Safety Data Sheets.”
Sampling a Lexmark Laser Printer Cartridge MSDS
What does a sample MSDS for a Lexmark laser printer cartridge looks like? We checked out one from the list posted on the Lexmark website, the MSDS for the E320, E322 print cartridge.
This product is a toner cartridge used for the E320, E322 mono laser printer model of Lexmark. Here is a gist of the MSDS.
• Health hazard. The print cartridge does not pose any harm when it comes into contact with the skin, but such contact should be avoided nonetheless. It can also cause mild irritation when inhaled or ingested, and there is a possibility that it can make existing respiratory conditions worsen when inhaled.
• First aid measures. If the dust from the print cartridge gets in contact with the skin, the affected area should be washed thoroughly with soap and water. If the affected areas are the eyes, the eyes should be flushed with warm water. Should the dust be inhaled, the person who inhaled it should be taken out to get fresh air. A glass or two of water should be given to the person who ingested it.
The MSDS of this Lexmark laser printer cartridge also indicates that it should never be put in a place where children could reach it.
