The History of Lexmark

The History of Lexmark

In 1991, Lexmark was born as a branch off of IBM‘sprint sector. They make and distribute printers and printer products andaccessories to this day and are located in Lexington, Kentucky. However, there are many otheroffices for Lexmark all across the world. In 1994, all IBMinsignia were removed from Lexmark printer products as the company had made aname for itself and was successful on its own. The company went public in 1995.

Lexmark’s primaryproducts include laser, inkjet and dot matrix printers. Both monochrome andcolor models are available, including all-in-one printer, copier, scannerdevices. Models for home use and larger corporations are available.

With over 13,000 employees across the world and 4,000 attheir headquarters alone, Lexmark has come a long way from its birth in theearly nineties. They currently make third-party products for other companiesincluding Dell. With $5.2 billion in revenue in 2005 alone and as a currentFortune 500 company, it is no wonder why Lexmark is one of the leading printercompanies in the world.

Lexmark was the first company to offer an inkjet printer forunder $100 and were also the first to promote a 4800 x 1200 dpi and a 3600 x1200 dpi resolution. Keeping on the trend of "firsts" they were also the firstcompany to make a photo printer that could work on its own as a standalonemodel.

They are always on the look out for ways to expand themarket for printing, including affordable printer models and even all-in-onemodels. Lexmark also works hard to make sure the latest products such asdigital imaging devices are incorporated and fully usable with their printerproducts.
