Staples’ Recycling Program

Companies all over the world are making efforts to save the environment because thousands of tons of plastic and hazardous materials end up in landfills  each day. Recycling, reusing, and proper disposal of consumer products are one way of preserving the environment. As a consumer, all you have to do is look for a recycling business in your area or research if the brand you are using, for example your computer (HP, Apple, Dell, etc.), has a recycling program that allows you to dispose your computer when you no longer need it.

Staples is a large office supply chain store in the United States and they have a Recycling and Eco-Services program that allows you to take your products into a Staples store for recycling. You can bring your old computers, calculators, and other office supplies into a store and rely on them to responsibly recycle the products for you.

Ink and Toner Cartridge Recycling

If you have empty ink and toner cartridges, you can take them to a Staples store and get $2 Staples Reward for each empty cartridge. A customer may earn up to $20 each month or 10 cartridges per month. You can use your earned Staples Rewards to buy Staples products either in the store or online. This is a great way to save on your future purchases at Staples while at the same time taking care of the environment by not disposing of your empty printer cartridges in the garbage.

Free Technology Recycling

If you have old office supplies that you are no longer using, you can take them to a Staples store and they will take care of recycling your old technology. The following items are accepted at a Staples store for recycling for free (because some recycling establishments charge a fee to recycle your old stuff).

  • Desktop computers
  • Tablets, e-Readers, laptops
  • Monitors
  • Copiers, scanners, printers, fax machines
  • Shredders
  • UPS/Battery backup devices
  • Peripherals like keyboards, mice, routers, and speakers
  • Small electronics like MP3 players, GPS devices, digital cameras, cordless phones and mobile phones

However, the following are not accepted for recycling at a Staples store:

  • Floor model copiers and printers
  • Appliances
  • Large servers
  • Televisions
  • Stereo/AV equipment
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries larger than 12 pounds
  • Bulbs/lamps

If you have electronics that you are no longer using, just look for a Staples store near your area and bring the items that are acceptable for recycling. This way you can do your part in protecting the environment. You can locate a Staples store using this link –
