How to Disable File and Printer Sharing in Windows XP?
In offices, file and printers sharing assumes paramount importance. However, with the increase in sharing, there is an increase in risk with respect to virus attacks, hacking and use of information by unauthorized people.
Here are a few steps to disable file and printers sharing when you don’t want it.
STEP 1: Go to Control Panel
Go to the Windows XP start menu. Click Start and go to Control Panel
STEP 2: Network Connections
You must double click on the icon labeled ‘Network Connections’. This will open Network Connections Window.
STEP 3: Opening ‘Wireless Network Connections’ Window
Right click on the icon labeled ‘Wireless Network Connections’. Now click on ‘Properties’.
STEP 4: Remove Check Mark
In the ‘Properties’ window, you will see a box marked ‘File and Printer Sharing’. The box will be checked. Remove the check and click ‘OK’.
STEP 5: Job Done
Now all you need to do is close the ‘Network Connections Window’. You have now disabled your file and printer sharing in Windows XP.
STEP 6: For all Network Connections
These steps are applicable to all kinds of network connections. Even printers and files shared through a dial-up account or your Local Area Network connections can be disabled using this procedure.
STEP 7: To Enable File and Printer Sharing
If you want to enable file and printer sharing in Windows XP, all you need to do is follow steps 1 to 4. Just check the dialog box marked ‘File and Printer Sharing’. This way your files and printers are on the network, once again.
