How to Set Up a Network Printer?
Offices and large organizations today, use printers that are set up over a network. Today manufacturers have come out with various printers that come with various default networking features.
STEP 1: Get Connected to the Network
Before setting up a network printer, make sure that you are connected to the network. Moreover, the network must be the one that hosts the network printer. After this all you need to do is click on 'Start'.
STEP 2: Start and Select
After you click on the Start button, you will be taken to the control panel window. You then click on the Printers and Faxes icon and then click on Add Printers. You then have to select the local printer that has been attached to that particular computer.
Take care not to check the boxes that are under the heading 'Play Printer' and 'Automatically detect and Install my Plug'.
STEP 3: The Ports
You then have to click on Next, which will take you to a prompt; 'Create a New Port'. Once you click on it, you will be asked for the type of port. The option TCP/IP can be selected from the drop down menu.
STEP 4: Address
You need to enter a specific IP address and the Port name will see an automatic population. You then click on 'Finish'.
STEP 5: The Drivers
Windows XP has an automated system of finding, and installing the necessary drivers. If your driver is not available just choose the Windows Update button. The manufacturer’s software drivers will be displayed.
STEP 6: The Last Step
You then have to confirm the driver and choose 'Keep Existing Driver' and click on 'Next'. Name your printer and the job is done.
